On the evening of Saturday, November 2nd, the Renaissance Schaumburg Convention Center Hotel was one of the buzziest places in Chicago. Over 600 guests attended Gateway for Cancer Research’s annual Cures Gala which raised a record-setting $4.2 million for the nonprofit dedicated to funding transformational cancer research.
Global philanthropists Dr. Stacie J. Stephenson and Mr. Richard J Stephenson served as the evening’s hosts. Mr. Muneer Satter, himself a distinguished philanthropist and investor, served as honorary co-chair. Actress and comedian Melissa Peterman emceed the event.
The night's theme – ‘Gateway Studio 54’ – was inspired by one of New York City’s most legendary night clubs and featured a star-studded program of entertainment including performances by Grammy winning singer/songwriter/producer CeeLo Green, Grammy Hall of Fame recipients The Sugarhill Gang and more. Later in the night, guests danced to hits by ABBA Revisited and the Montreal Rhapsody Orchestra.
Gateway Studio 54 drew celebrity guests from across the country including Torrey DeVitto (NBC’s Chicago Med), Joe Minoso (NBC’s Chicago Fire), Marina Squerciati (NBC’s Chicago P.D.), Molly Bernard (NBC’s Chicago Med), Willa Fitzgerald (MTV’s Scream) and more.
Gala proceeds will support Phase I and Phase II clinical trials for cancers of all types. Since 1991, Gateway has raised more than $85 million for cancer research and funded 170+ studies benefitting over 5,500 patients worldwide. 99 cents of every dollar Gateway receives directly funds early phase clinical trials at renowned research institutions around the world.
